Point System
The primary objective of the Intramural Program is to attain maximum student participation. To encourage involvement, the Intramural Point System awards points for participation and for achievement. The system also attempts to discourage forfeits by deducting points from teams or individuals who forfeit games or matches. Signing up to play and then forfeiting is not fair to those persons who show up to play and work. Intramural activities included in the point system are divided into three classes with separate point ranges for each classification.
Class I Sports Flag Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, SoccerClass I sports are the league sports that the organizations will participate in. For each regular season match, the following point totals will apply: WIN = 8 points LOSS = 4 points TIE = 6 points For playoffs the top four eligible teams will advance. The following points will be added to the respective teams point totals. The above points do NOT apply to playoff games. Champion = 20 points Runner-up = 10 points Semi Final Losers = 5 points Each team participating in the league and not forfeiting/no-showing a game will receive an additional 15 points. Consequently, if a team forfeits, or no-shows, that team will lose 10 points from their overall total. Sportsmanship Rating – Additional points will be added to your score based on your average sportsmanship rating over the entire season. S.R. = Average Sportsmanship Rating (all games, regular season and playoffs) P.A. = Points Awarded (added or subtracted to your point total for that sport because of sportsmanship) P.A. = (S.R. – 3.25) x 10 Class II SportsQuickball, Walleyball, Racquetball, Tennis, Billiards, Inner Tube Water Polo, Table Tennis, Kickball, Dodgeball, 4on4 Flag Football, Ultimate Frisbee, WhiffleballEach group or organization may enter up to two individuals or 1 team into these events. Since these sports are run in a bracket format, the following points will apply to their outcomes: WIN = 3 points LOSS = 1 point These are individual points earned by the participants/team that will go toward their organizations overall point total. In addition, the following will receive the listed bonus points for their organization: Champion = 10 points Runner-up = 8 points Semi-final Losers = 4 points Points will be earned for bye’s in the bracket which will be done in blind draw format. Participation Points: each participant or team that enters and competes will receive 3 points per participant (6 points max) or 6 points per team (6 points max). If an individual/team enters and then forfeits, the team will have 5 points deducted from their team total. Sportsmanship Rating – Additional points will be added to your score based on your average sportsmanship rating over the entire season/tournament. S.R. = Average Sportsmanship Rating (all games, regular season and playoffs) P.A. = Points Awarded (added or subtracted to your point total for that sport because of sportsmanship) P.A. = (S.R. – 3.25) x 10 Class III SportsTrack and Field, Golf, Bowling, Swim Meet, Home Run Derby, Turkey Trot
These activities are our one-day contests based on individual/team performance versus others in the activity. It is not a bracket format so the points system is a bit different. The points will be accumulated and the teams will receive points as follows based on their accumulated scores from the contest: Champion = 25 Runner-Up = 20 Third Place = 15 Fourth Place = 10 Fifth Place = 5 No Show = 0 Sportsmanship Rating – Additional points will be added to your score based on your average sportsmanship rating over the entire season/tournament. S.R. = Average Sportsmanship Rating (all games, regular season and playoffs) P.A. = Points Awarded (added or subtracted to your point total for that sport because of sportsmanship) P.A. = (S.R. – 3.25) x 10 Manager MeetingsFor each semester, each organization must elect a Sports Chairperson. This person is a liaison between the Intramural Coordinator and the organization. They are responsible for relaying rules, dates, times and results of contests to their members. These representatives can also earn points for their organizations by attending the monthly Intramural Advisory Board meetings. Each meeting attended will earn the organization five (5) points. At the beginning of the semester, the Chairperson will also name an alternate. If in any case the Chairperson cannot attend the meeting, only the identified alternate may take his/her place at the meeting. Meetings begin at 12:25pm and end when the Intramural Coordinator leaves the room. Officiating PointsThe Georgia State Intramural Program will use student officials for its sports. To entice members of your organization to become officials and build the Georgia State Officials Association there will be a new Officiating Points system. Your organization can receive an additional 7 officiating points for each team member (3 max) that officiates in each Division I sport. You may also receive an additional 5 points for each member (max 3) that is a scorekeeper for basketball. The official/scorekeeper must meet certain criteria for the team to receive these points. Any violation of these criteria will result in no officiating points awarded to the team. 1. Work at least three weeks of the regular season and the entire tournament. 2. Receive above average ratings on all evaluations. 3. Not receive more than one verbal or written policy violation warning per semester 4. Show up for all scheduled shifts (or find approved substitutes).
